What Is Plan Mode?

TL;DR: Plan Mode is a setting in agentic IDEs (like Windsurf) and builders (like Lovable) where the AI writes a step-by-step execution plan before generating code. It reduces local errors but cannot replace global pre-build planning.

If you tell an AI agent to "build a payment dashboard," it will immediately start generating UI files and routing logic. Halfway through, it might realize it needs a new database table and clumsily try to hack it in.

Plan Mode stops this immediate execution. It forces the agent to stop, think, and write out a checklist of what files it intends to touch. You review the checklist, approve it, and then the agent executes.

The Catch: Plan Mode only knows about the context it can currently see. It is great for local, feature-level execution. But if the agent doesn't have an overarching Architecture Design Document loaded into its memory, its "plan" is just a highly organized guess.

Zalcro generates the Architecture Design Document that Plan Mode needs as its global context, so the agent's plan is based on your architecture, not a guess.
