What Is a Database Schema?
TL;DR: A database schema is the blueprint of how your data is organized, stored, and related. In AI-assisted development, locking down your schema before you prompt an agent is the single most important step to keeping your app stable.
AI agents are obsessed with the immediate task. If you ask an agent to build a user profile page, it will write the frontend code. If the frontend needs a user_role field that doesn't exist in your database, an unconstrained agent will often just hallucinate it, rewrite your backend fetch logic, and inadvertently break your authentication system.
This happens because the agent wasn't given a locked schema.
In Spec-Driven Development, you define every table, column, and relationship upfront. You feed that explicit schema into the AI's rules or memory. When the agent builds a feature, it is forced to fetch and mutate data within those rigid boundaries, preventing cascading data failures.
Zalcro generates an explicit database schema as part of every Architecture Design Document, locking the schema before an agent writes a single line of code.
