What Is Agentic Building?

TL;DR: Agentic building is directing an AI coding agent through multi-step development tasks. The agent reads the codebase, writes code, runs commands, and iterates autonomously rather than waiting for a prompt at every step.

What it is

In agentic building, the AI isn't generating a code snippet on request, it's operating as an autonomous collaborator. An agent like Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex can read files across your repo, execute terminal commands, write and test code, catch its own errors, and loop until a task is complete.

The difference between this and vibe coding is autonomy and scope. Vibe coding is typically prompt-by-prompt: you describe something, the AI generates it, you review. Agentic building hands the agent a larger task and lets it work across multiple files and steps before surfacing results.

Why it needs more structure, not less

The autonomy that makes agentic building powerful also makes it riskier without upfront planning. An agent operating across your codebase makes architectural decisions constantly: how to name things, where to put logic, what schema structure to use. Without a spec, it infers those decisions, and once an agent has built several files based on a bad assumption, unwinding it is harder than if you'd specified it upfront.

The 80% wall hits agentic builders particularly hard because the failures compound. An agent that builds on a flawed assumption doesn't just generate one broken component, it generates an entire feature tree built on that mistake.

The answer is giving the agent a source of truth before it starts: a defined schema, a routing plan, and architectural boundaries it isn't allowed to cross. That's what an Architecture Design Document does.

Zalcro produces the ADD and Prompt Pack that agentic builders fetch directly via MCP, so they build with context instead of inventing architecture mid-task.
